The Two-Photon Decay of 1s2s 1S0 States
نویسندگان
چکیده
In He-like systems the decay of the 1s2s S0 excited state to the 1s S0 ground state is not allowed. This excited state can only decay to the ground state via the emission of two photons. The spectral shape of the emitted continuum is determined by the complete structure of the atomic system as all bound and continuum P states contribute to the 2E1 decay. For very heavy atomic systems the P states ALSO have to be included and the normalized spectral shape changes with atomic number according to the relative strengthS of both, the electron-electron interaction and of the relativistic effects. A brief survey on the variation of the spectral shape of the two-photon continuum with atomic number is given and compared to experiments ranging from He-like Ni to He-like Au with special emphasis on the heavy relativistic system. The data compare well with fully relativistic calculations.

Two - photon decay in highly charged heavy ions : Spectral shape of the 2 E 1 ( 2 1 S 0 → 1 1 S 0 ) in He - like tin
We have measured the two-photon 2E1 transition from the singlet 1s2s 1S0 to the 1s 1S0 ground state of helium-like tin. The experiment was performed by using initially Li-like tin ions in collision with a nitrogen gas target at the ESR storage ring at the energy of 300 MeV/u. The two-photon emission arises from the decay of the exclusively formed 1s2s states following the ionization of one K-sh...

The doubly exci ted 2s2p 1 P 1 level of Kr + populated via resonant transfer and excitation (RTE) feeds selectively the metastable ls2s 1S0 state which can only decay via sirnultaneous emission of two photons to the ground state ls2 1So. X-rayIX-ray coincidenee measurements in heavy ionatom collisions enable the direct measurement of the spectral distribution of the two-photon decay in He-like ...
متن کاملYoung–type interferences in the two–photon decay of heavy helium–like ions∗
The characteristic photon emission from highly– charged, heavy ions has been in the focus of experimental studies at the GSI facility for many years [1]. Apart from the one–photon bound–bound transitions, the two–photon decay of metastable ionic states has attracted much interest since it may reveal unique knowledge on the complete spectrum of high–Z ions, including the negative continuum of Di...

متن کاملProduction Of 1 s 2 s 2 p 4 P States By Transfer - Loss Cascades In O 5 + Collisions With He And H 2 Targets
Single differential cross-sections for transfer-loss (TL) leading to the production of O(1s2s S)nl L states were computed for 0.2-1.2 MeV/u collisions of O(1s2s) ions with He and H2 targets. At these collision energies, 1s loss is significant and electron transfer to n = 3 − 4 levels is dominant. Furthermore, due to spin conservation, quartet states can only be populated by TL. Within the indep...
